Awareness of my external world is easy. It is what I have been taught all my life. Awareness of my internal world is harder. It is much easier to blame someone or something “out there” than to look inside myself and take responsibility.
When I have time to mastermind with others, my choices expand from ten to twenty to 100 to infinity. No choice is right or wrong. Some simply lead to less painful and more joyful solutions than others.
One morning, still trembling in terror, I sat myself down on my living room sofa, consciously brought my mind back to the present moment, and repeated over and over, “Let go and let God.” Suddenly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my trembling stopped. Here I was,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], safe and sound in my own living room. I could manage this present moment. I suddenly knew that I could manage each and every “future present moment,” one moment at a time. All I had to do was prepare thoroughly, “let go” and let a Power greater than myself support me.

I didn’t much like the word “God.” It always made me think of an old man with a long white beard, sitting on a thundercloud with a lightening bolt in his hand, waiting to strike me dead if I didn’t do some unclear thing he wanted me to do. I had always considered myself an intellectual agnostic. I liked the words “Power greater than myself” better than the word “God.” At least, they were tolerable.
While being aware of my external world may be easy, there are consciousness tools that make it easier. While I am noticing my external world and making discernments about it, it is vital that I detach emotionally from other peoples’ dramas. That includes the media, bullies, arrogant government officials, and “poor me” victims. It is also vital that I not judge people who are imprisoned by their own dramas. I am never right for others. I am always right for myself. I can never fix others. I can only fix myself. Fixing others is not my job. Fixing myself is. By fixing myself, I affect others in positive ways.

By bringing my mental focus back to the present moment and focusing on my own next action step, fear disappears. In order to figure out that next action step, I have to ask myself the right questions: What do I think? What do I feel? What do I need? How can I get what I need without hurting others?
I had a son to support and my own bills to pay. Moreover, I was doing an excellent job in an area of law where few attorneys had my expertise. It was an area of law that John did not understand, nor did he understand the financial ramifications of his actions for the City. However, his ignorance and arrogance had become an unpleasant fact of my life.
We always have choices. At minimum, we can choose to act or not act.

Very nervous speakers do not allow themselves to hit the comfort zone. They stay in the red zone throughout the talk, causing their fear to take over. This phenomenon causes fear not to propel but to paralyze.
The Paradox of Fear
 Most people do not realize that fear is a good thing. In fact, if you are too relaxed you will not perform as well on the podium. Seasoned speakers know this. It's a big secret we like to keep to ourselves. If everyone knew that fear was a good thing, everyone would confidently walk up to the podium, knowing that the fear would soon disappear. Others would not be so impressed with our prowess on stage.
Let's look at what happens to effectiveness in relation to fear.
This article will put that universal fear of public speaking in the proper perspective and give you some tips for turning the fear into positive energy.
*Isolate Each Fear. Once you've identified your fears, list the things you can do to prevent that dreaded event from happening. *Make the Unknown Known. One of our biggest fears of speaking is the unknown. We do not know the audience. We do not know the location. We do not know what will happen when we open our mouths. This list is endless. Of course you cannot make all the unknowns known, but the more you make known the more control you will get on this fear. *Greet people as they walk in. Shake hands and make eye contact. If possible, ask people their names. With a large audience you cannot meet everyone, but each person you greet becomes your new friend.

For the first time in my adult life we finally have a U.S. President I want to listen to. When I listen to the President’s speeches,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I’m reminded of Professor Marcham because I find my imagination rekindled and that I’m once again “stirred up.”
And given the recent events in Iran,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I now feel a strong determination to see not only change but transformation. “Hope” is an uplifting thing, but to forge what hope envisions words like “intention” and “focus” must come into play. I’ve been disappointed with how the media and people in general have forgotten about the situations in both Iran and North Korea (they’re still firing missiles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to Seoul reports) and instead are focused on the celebrities that have passed on recently. Sad as these things are, my concern is that people prefer this simpler - albeit sad - news rather than the more complicated sort.

Lisa Powers is head of policy at London-based AIDS charity the Terrence Higgins Trust. "People often erroneously believe that by putting some people through a very high profile trial for this that that will make other people behave more safely,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Powers said. Benaissa was 16-years-old and three months pregnant when she found out she was HIV-positive. She went on to become a member of the successful German pop group No Angels. During the trial, Benaissa made an emotional apology and said she wished she could "turn back the clocks" of time.

Powers says the criminalization of HIV transmission does nothing to help stop the spread of HIV. "The fact is we need to get people with HIV who are having difficulty with safer sex to come forward and ask for help," she added. "And if they think that they are going to be imprisoned rather than helped to change their ways,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then where is the incentive for them to come forward and ask for help?"
